Tom Cullinan Appointed to CSA Board of Directors

CSA is pleased to welcome its newest member of the Board of Directors, Tom Cullinan.

Tom Cullinan is an alumnus of CSA, having lived at Procop House for over a year.  He has devoted a significant portion of his time and energy into helping other individuals and families affected by alcoholism and chemical dependency on the road to recovery and restoration.

Tom studied for his BA at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and later at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill for an MFA in performance.  He’s made a successful career as an actor, director, and stage designer here in Cleveland and in cities across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states, choosing to focus on the use of theatrical arts as an educational tool.

During Tom’s seven year tenure with Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Department as a performer and educator, and later as the company’s program coordinator and new projects director, KPETD won several awards for innovation in health education from the State of Ohio, the CDC, and the National Institutes of Health.  Two of those programs – “SECRETS” (HIV and safe sex education for high school and college students) and “Unfinished Business” (organ donation and transplant, produced in partnership with LifeBanc and UNOS) – are still being produced by KPETD across the country.

Tom also worked with Great Lakes Theater Festival’s Actor/Teacher program, bringing classic drama to classrooms from grades 1-12, partnering with English departments across Northeast Ohio in week-long residencies.  He taught continuing education classes in performance at the Cleveland Playhouse and, in 2003, joined Tri-C’s Western Campus theater department initially as an associate professor, and eventually as the department’s Technical Director from 2004 to 2006.

Tom is currently back to work teaching at the Houde School of Acting in Cleveland Heights, and continues to work on an individual basis with alcoholics and addicts to stay sober and reconnect with their families and communities.

Please join with CSA in welcoming Tom to the leadership of the organization.
